How We Work

We bring funding, hands-on support, and genuine partnership.

We're not a distant institution. We're in it with you.
We connect it with people like you and help it move forward.

Three things that make a project possible.

HCF is built for the space between vision and momentum: when an organization has the knowledge, the drive, and a clear vision for what's next, but not yet the backing to make it real.

Catalytic funding

Seed grants and early-stage capital for conservation work that's ready to move. We often write the first check, so others can follow. Grant size varies by project; we work with organizations at different stages of funding.

Strategic Partnership

Insight, introductions, and honest feedback from people who have worked across business, philanthropy, and local conservation. We help you think beyond the immediate challenge toward what’s next.

Long-term commitment

We stay close after the grant. That means check-ins, problem-solving, and showing up when things get hard. We’re invested in your success, not just your application.

How We Decide

We don't back proposals.
We back people.

What matters to us isn't a polished deck. It's understanding the problem you're solving, why you're the right people to solve it, and what support would make possible.

We trust local expertise and lived experience. If you know the place, the community, and the issue better than anyone else, that's what we're looking for.

What we look for

Conservation work with clear local or regional significance

A team with genuine proximity to the problem

A specific issue that funding can unlock right now

Openness to partnership, not just a transaction

Early-stage or underfunded work that traditional funders overlook

Community-led approach where local voice drives the work

THE PROCESS

Simple, direct, and built around conversation.

Reach out

Tell us who you are, what you're working on, and what you need. No formal application required to start. An email, text, or a call works.

We connect

If there's alignment, we'll set up a conversation. We want to understand your work directly, from the people doing it.

We decide together

If we're a fit, we'll discuss what support looks like: funding amount, timeline, and what we can offer beyond the grant.

We get to work

Funding moves fast. We stay in the picture as a partner, a sounding board, and a connector as the project grows.

Who We're Fit For

We're not the right partner for every project.
We're most useful at the earliest stage.

Good Fit

Early-stage conservation ideas ready to move

Projects seeking first believers and early momentum

Community-led conservation efforts

Local and regional environmental solutions

Teams with clear expertise and a path forward

Organizations looking for a true partner, not just funding

Not our Focus

Projects outside conservation and environmental stewardship

Ideas without clear local ownership or leadership

Work without a path to implementation

Organizations looking only for transactional funding
