HCF Announces 2023-24 Catalytic Grant RFP

Howell Conservation Fund (HCF) is seeking new partnerships with small or early-stage nonprofits who are piloting programs or expanding their efforts around environmental conservation. We will be distributing six ‘catalytic grants’ of $5,000 to each of the new partners, as well as provide program support based on the needs of each partner. HCF may combine multiple grants into a larger funding amount for proposals that show greater potential.

Application Deadline: November 15, 2023 11:59PM Pacific

About HCF:

Howell Conservation Fund accelerates environmental initiatives around the world by working at the intersection of business, nonprofit, and philanthropy to drive breakthrough conservation solutions. We work with early-stage nonprofits, small businesses, and philanthropies to maximize their impact and alleviate financial constraints associated with the startup phase of a project, program, or organization.

Grant Information:

HCF’s ‘catalytic grants’ are intended to help organizations test and pilot new ideas, or expand on existing operations with the intention of growing the program in the future. Examples of how this grant may be used include ramping up a new idea or project that requires initial funding to get it off the ground, qualifying for matching funds from another grant or funding source, building traction or creating market validation for a newer company or initiative, or creating an ancillary program as part of an existing organization or operation.

Grant timeline

The details of each partnership and grant - including start date and reporting requirements - will vary with each successful grantee based on their needs. However, we expect that all grant funding will be used and reporting will be completed within 1 year of the grant distribution.

Qualifications:

Those applying for funding ideally will fit the following criteria; however all proposals for viable environmental conservation initiatives will be considered. The organization should:

  • Be working toward conservation solutions that address today’s environmental problems. Priority will be given to projects/programs/organizations working toward circular economy solutions, plastic pollution mitigation, and marine conservation, but organizations working on other environmental initiatives are encouraged to apply.

  • Either be a registered 501c3 or intend to become one in the future. If needed, HCF may provide fiscal sponsorship as part of the grant agreement. The organization should indicate in its proposal whether it is seeking fiscal sponsorship.

  • Be able to achieve measurable impact with the funding provided.
