Status: Phase 1 planning
HCF Support: $5,000 Catalytic Grant
Leverage: More than $5,000 in matching support
Expected Start: January 2027
Project Development
Global Coralition develops large-scale underwater sculptures as catalysts for marine protection, coral restoration, community engagement, and sustainable ecotourism. Its next planned site is in Indonesia, where the first phase will focus on research, local partnerships, and ecological strategy before decisions are made about a future build or deployment.
What HCF is Supporting
HCF provided a $5,000 conditional matching grant for site assessment, ecological mapping, engagement with Ocean Gardeners and other Indonesian scientific, cultural, community, and restoration partners, and development of a credible Phase 2 implementation and fundraising plan. Through Ma Earth’s Round 3 campaign, HCF’s grant unlocked more than $5,000 in additional matching support.
What Comes Next
Phase 1 is expected to begin in January 2027. The team will evaluate potential sites and restoration methods, build local partnerships, explore the feasibility and cultural grounding of an underwater sculpture concept, and prepare a Phase 2 plan, budget, and long-term stewardship strategy.
Updates and outcomes will be added as the project reaches defined milestones.
